Journal 2: Prompt
While writing project 1, I think I improved most on the
actual analysis of the two genres. My first draft was basically just a summary
of both movies with few comparisons such as the title or the similarities
between the main characters. I wasn’t sure how to write or format the essay
when I first started it, but as I wrote more and more drafts and listened to
the criticisms of my peers, new ideas sparked in my mind. The most important
thing I learned from this project was how to write in MLA format. As silly as it
sounds, I was never exposed to specific writing formats such as MLA, APA,
Chicago etc, as I did not take advanced English classes in high school. I was
very confused about how to use MLA formatting in my essay, but during the peer
review sessions and the teacher conference I was taught how. I say this is the
most important thing I learned because I know I will have to use this style of
writing and many others in the future. If I had another week to work on my
essay, I would try to delve deeper into the themes of beauty and vanity, as
well as the comparisons between the two genres because I know I there are
deeper meanings beneath them. If I could rewrite the project prompt in the
syllabus, I wouldn’t change anything. I felt that the project prompt adequately
described what was expected of the genre analysis and how to properly exemplify
the similarities and differences between the two genres.
Hi Georgi
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to learn that you've picked up on MLA on this first project. That will definitely be important in our project 2. P.S.: I'm a big The Office fan!
