Chapter 7
In this chapter citations and and sources were discussed in addition to plagiarizing. This served mostly as a review for me of the way to cite things and such. I'm used to using MLA in high school I needed to do that for all my papers. Sometimes it can get kind of confusing so I appreciated the guidelines and examples the book provided. The only concern I really have with citing is sometimes I tend to include a lot of citations in my essays and I need to learn to cut back a little. I think this was a good refresher as to when to cite and how to avoid plagiarizing as much as possible. How to correctly do in text citations is something that I struggle with as well but it isn't too difficult. Overall I think this chapter was a good review in preparation for writing our research papers.
I agree with multiple things you said. Finding a balance between what is good citations and what is overdoing it is hard. Especially when you're cramming so many great scholarly articles in a set amount of words. I also agree that this was a great refresher to refocus us as we go into this first draft. Nailing these quotes and citations is going to be a key to success.
ReplyDeleteI too worry about using too many citations in my writing sometimes and it can tend to not sound like my own paper. This chapter was helpful because it reminded me of the different ways to incorporate sources besides just direct quotes. In my research paper, I'm going to try to paraphrase and summarize more.
ReplyDeleteI'm always paranoid about messing up when turning in an assignment so I agree that it is nice to have a reference to go to. I liked that fact that we read so many refresher chapters just because, I feel like even though we know we have a tendency to forget. I also agree that this will help a lot when it comes to writing our papers.
