Chapter 7 Response
This chapter served more as a refresher as it went over the types of citations the differences between paraphrasing and summarizing, and most importantly avoiding plagiarism. I personally needed a refresher on the specifics of MLA citations primarily due to the lack of writing research papers in high school, so this chapter is going to help myself not get docked for improper citations and not plagiarizing because, why pass off someone else's work as your own is all know the saying by Sir Isaac Newton, "if I have seen further than others. It is by standing on the shoulder's of giants." showing that no one expects you to get everything on your own, or completely develop new thought without some guidance. Additionally the way to cite based on if i am paraphrasing or quoting definitely helps as i was rusty on that so this chapter helped most for the most daring part of the research paper.
I agree with you in the fact that chapter seven was more or less a major refresher but I didn't find it as helpful as you did it would seem. I felt it was rather redundant because we reviewed a lot of this in class over the past few classes but it will be something great to reference while writing this paper.
ReplyDeleteLike you I thought that this was more of a refresher chapter than anything new. Like you I never really wrote research papers in high school so I'm hoping this chapter and the discussions we had about citations help me to do my best and not get points docked for a silly reason like citations.
ReplyDeleteI also feel that this chapter was a helpful refresher of important topics that we, as writers, knew prior to reading this chapter. I, as well, have found some difficulty in correctly citing my sources and want to learn how to properly do so. This is so I will not accidentally plagiarize within my paper and use wrong citation techniques.
