Chapter 7 Response
In chapter seven, the main topic discussed is how to best integrate quotes and sources into your work. I've always been able to successfully quote and cite sources in my writing and doing so in a smooth manner. I always make sure to follow the tips that were given in this chapter: referring to the author and giving them credit, paraphrase instead of only doing direct quotes, summarizing sources, and never altering the original meaning of the quote. One extremely useful tip that this chapter gave was altering quotes to match the correct verb tense. I never paid attention to/understood what it meant when authors would put brackets around single letters in a word, but this book did a great job of explaining this commonly used tactic that I was for some reason unaware of. In my eyes, this chapter related to the "Annoying Ways" article because it summarized proper solutions to the "annoying" problems that the author pointed out in that article. It was really helpful and will definitely come in handy for the research project we are working on.
I love using brackets because if the quote doesn't fit before you change it with brackets, it sure as heck does now. I also saw the correlation between "Annoying Ways" and chapter seven. They seem like they'll be annoying to read and understand but they relate everything to us smoothly and I very much pay attention to what they are saying.
ReplyDeleteI too have found that quoting sources and giving credit has generally come easy to me, but I am glad that this passage went over everything. I will absolutely be looking back into this chapter while writing my research paper as well. Glad we were both able to find useful information from this chapter!
ReplyDeleteI liked what you had to say about this. I had not thought about how much it relates to "Annoying Ways" but it does 100%. This chapter was also more of a refresher for me but I did find a lot of what was written to be helpful.
