Chapter 7 Reading Response

While reading this chapter, I actually found there to be quite a bit of valuable information present, especially for those who may not have knowledge of how to properly cite. The beginning of the chapter explains how to make a parenthetical citation, which is very useful for us due to how often we need to write papers and properly cite our sources. It then gives a brief overview on how to quote, paraphrase, and summarize, which is also very useful for college writing. It then expands on these overviews, giving a more detailed description and instructions on how to properly quote, paraphrase, and summarize. The chapter also goes into great detail discussing plagiarism and how to avoid it while citing, quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. This is arguably the most important part of the chapter, as getting caught plagiarizing, whether intentional or not, can have severe repercussions on your academic career, possibly leading to expulsion from your university. I found this chapter to be really informative and a good refresher on how to cite, as well as learning a bit more about how to quote, paraphrase, and summarize. These topics weren't really covered much in high school, so learning how to do them from the book is really useful, especially for the upcoming academic paper. Overall, I found the chapter to be pretty good, not too boring and having a good amount of information.
