Chapter 5
This chapter was helpful for the upcoming project 2 because I usually have trouble writing research papers. My main issues are being specific enough and choosing a topic that I feel I can find a lot of information on. In previous years I didn't really refine my research questions as much as I should've and because of that the paper would be too broad and not very good. I do appreciate the fact that we are able to choose our own topics because it is much easier to write about something you actually enjoying learning about so it makes the whole process a little less tedious. I liked that the book provided examples of good research questions, I feel like that will help me when I start trying to formulate my own. My topic also needs to one that I can easily find good sources for to cite within my essay. Another issue I usually face with research papers in trying not to be biased. Everyone will automatically lean to one side of a controversial topic but I have to be careful not to sound like I'm persuading my readers to agree with me and why I chose that side.
I agree with what you said because I also have had some difficulty with prior research papers as a writer. I agree that the choice to choose your topic does make the process of writing a research paper much easier and enjoyable. A good point you brought up was the issue of bias. I also feel that it is very important to be indifferent towards a topic and try your hardest to not sound bias or appear bias within your research paper.
ReplyDeleteI think you're so lucky that you've written research papers before, i never have, all the essays i wrote in high school were mainly analysis and some persuasive essays so I'm going in to this with no prior knowledge. i think the book did help me though and helped break it up so I'm not too scared. i also love that we can pick our on topic but its been some what troublesome for me because most things I'm interested in are probably banned. i think will ultimately have to pick a side but as long as that side is supported by your research it will be fine because i don't think she wants us too write a research paper where we qualify and argue both sides.
