Chapter 5
This was the best chapter by far. I actually am very thankful for this text, as I was very nervous for this project, and while I still am intimidated, this information has made the task more attainable. Having it broken down from the first idea of what to research to the annotated bibliography is very easy to understand and see the steps that are necessary to get to the finished paper. Showing how an idea that we're interested in can go from just a topic to a bad question, to a searchable question, and then to a specific question will greatly assist the process of doing the same for my own research question. I still don't know what I want to research, but when I sit down to think of topics I feel comfortable being able to full develop that idea. It was also interesting to see things in this chapter that I would normally do that I wasn't aware were proper steps or that anyone else would do. Before I write any paper I take the topic and try to think of different points that i can make with the knowledge that I already have. Based on that, I would come up with my own questions about stuff that I personally would like the answer to. Then building off that comes the big question that all my little digging leads to. I also have always used wikipedia as a cheat sheet of sorts. Typically I would find the information there and then scour the internet until i found a reliable source that confirmed the information, so I'm glad to see that that is a real thing that people do.
Once I have my question developed I will definitely refer back to the guide questions provided in the book to help me through the research to ensure I'm finding good information. Creating an annotated bibliography is something I have done before, so that doesn't really worry me, and it actually makes the writing process easier because you know exactly the information you wanted to pull from that source and you don't have to look through the whole article again. On the whole this chapter has made me ready to tackle this project and can now feel a bit at ease as I begin formulating my question with these steps provided.

I agree with how helpful this chapter has been. I think we were all coming into this project looking very skeptical. This chapter really gave me a good idea about writing. I agree that it is helpful having a similar process while writing. This essay would've been a lot harder if it was a completely different writing method. Great post
ReplyDeleteYour idea about actually going through and trying to find information about each topic before choosing is actually such a good idea. Personally, I don't think I would have the stamina to do all that. I too think that I will go back to the guide after knowing what my topic is about. And also I am terrified about the bibliography, but it's fine we shall get through it.
