Chapter 5 Response Chris Link
Chapter 5 was pretty helpful in terms of learning what to do
for research and how to write a research paper. In my highschool class, we didn’t
really do much in terms of research papers so this is a nice little introduction
to the style of writing. I feel like I would naturally become biased as I
created my paper as I would see certain arguments that I would find more
convincing. In the paper we’re going to write for the second project, I’ll try
to prevent my biases from ruining the integrity of the paper. This chapter gave
me some solid insight on how to make writing my papers more efficient and have
less errors in my work.
I share the sentiment that choosing a topic that is unbiased will be difficult but i think it is doable. Also i feel as if it would be hard to question integrity even if you are biased if you are using factual information from credible sites, then again nothing is set in stone, so when there is support for one side there is also support for the other.
ReplyDeleteOn a practical level, bias is unavoidable. We're all stuck in our own heads, our worldviews, etc. We see the world with our own eyes. But if we recognize not just that bias exists, but our own specific biases, that awareness can help us avoid letting the bias do too much of the talking.
ReplyDeleteI think there will always be a hint of bias in any research paper whether you are familiar with the topic or not. You almost develop a bias the more you learn about anything, so it isn't so much avoiding the bias but knowing how to minimize it in the essay.
