Ch 7 Response
Reading this chapter helped me to understand how to properly cite a source. It was a good refresher on it since we have not went over that in class since last week. The biggest shock to me was that if you paraphrased what the author wrote you still had to properly cite them I just assumed that if you were not using their words then you did not have to cite. Now I know that if you use just their idea and do not cite than that is plagiarism. I like this textbook and how it shows examples of what it is trying to teach you because those help the most. I also never even thought about or written a summary of a source in an actual paper. So that was a brand new idea that I will most likely use.
I agree that the chapter had a lot of helpful information in it but I found it rather redundant and I found that it wasn't all that helpful. I found that it wasn't all the helpful because just as you said you already went over this information in class last week and I feel we covered it really well.
ReplyDeleteI like the textbook for all of the examples too and it is nice to know that we can refer to it whenever it comes to writing our own paper. I agree that the paraphrase section was helpful because it would be terrible to accidentally plagiarize even though you were just trying to use one of the author's ideas. That section was the most beneficial part of the chapter for me as well. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI also liked all of the examples the textbook includes. I feel that this format is very helpful and suited to my personal preference. When I am learning, I prefer for the law to be explicitly stated and followed by several examples.
ReplyDeletei had not previously learned about paraphrasing until one of our recent classes, therefore that section was pretty helpful especially on when to integrate it, so i will use that when doing my essay to know forsure when to use a quote and when to paraphrase
