Ch 7 Reading Response
This chapter is about integrating and documenting sources in your writing. This is very helpful for me because I don't think I ever really learned how to properly use sources in a research paper. It's important to not only cite your sources correctly but integrate them into your text correctly. It has to relate to the source material, provide a perspective that's missing in the other sources. Quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing are all important aspects of incorporating sources into your essay. I also learned about when you should use quotes in your essay. I feel like I tend to use too many quotes because I always feel like the author of the source I'm using says their points better than I can. This chapter says that the best time to use a quote is when you feel as if you can't capture the essence of the language or idea by paraphrasing. Another helpful part of this chapter was the guide on how to cite your sources in MLA and APA styles. I always use a website to cite my sources for me and have no idea how to do it on my own, so this was useful and knowing how to do this on my own will probably save me some time too.
I feel like I have the same issue with over using quotes so I appreciated how that chapter talked about avoiding that as well. The section on the MLA and APA citations was also definitely something to keep handy for our research papers since I'm also prone to using website to cite things for me but sometimes that is inaccurate and I don't want to lose points or have anything that could be considered plagiarizing so I will be referring to this chapter quite often when I write my research paper.
ReplyDeleteI have usually found my self not using enough quotes in my research as i may make an assertion based off of one of the sources i have used but without actually including the source in my essay which make. That being said it is also really easy to over use quotes and finding that sweet middle ground may be difficult but doable.
