Annoying Ways

This essay was a nice refresher, about how to cite sources, before having to write my research paper. Although I already knew most of the information it is nice to have guidelines that I can go back and look at when actually writing my paper. I am most likely to patchwork my writing then to interject in a random quotation. My high school English teacher always stressed that quotes can’t be randomly placed in a paper. That they need to be explained or improve on the point you are trying to make. I enjoyed how the writer had examples and analogies for every point they were trying to make. It kept the essay interesting and easy to read. The author’s rhetoric kept their writing relatable, because who doesn’t hate being stuck behind a slow driver. I think that this was worth reading because I will now be much more conscious of how I use quotes when writing.

  1. I completely agree with your post. I liked that the author wrote funny examples of what not to do and that he included real examples from his students as guidelines of what is good. After reading this, I will definitely pay attention to how others may perceive my placement of quotations.

  2. Same, for once the article we read didn't feel like t was completely fluff, or that we needed it as a requirement for some course. though like you said most of this we know it is still a great refresher to not screw up the research paper.
