Annoying Ways
This is my favorite
article we have read so far. I found it both humorous and insightful. I
captivated my attention right away with the slow car driver’s analogy. To say
the least I have some serious road rage when I drive and there is nothing I hate
more than a car driving forty miles per hour in the fast lane. So, the comparison
was right on point for me and made me want to listen to what they had to say.
This article helped me realize how annoyed readers that know writing really
well must get when they see mistake that are supposedly common knowledge.
The
formatting in this article was helpful in drawing my attention and helping me
realize my mistake. I loved how each new section had a funny title, proceeded
to describe what you were probably doing wrong and then told you how to fix it.
The one section that helped me the most was “I Swear I Did Some Research!”. I
am very much guilty of patch writing at times. I feel that when you read a lot
of sources it gets jumble up and becomes your paper. You take a few concepts
from a few articles and you’re done. I like the idea of stylistic editing for
wordiness and flow because, I do tend to get wordy and even redundant at times.
The
conclusion paragraph is also very well written and makes me want to listen to
him. He is not condescending in any way. It is clear that this paper was really
written to people out with some basic tactics for making their writing less
annoying. He gives a few last tips such as communicating your intentions and
then ends on a humorous note.
