Annoying Ways
I hate sourcing. Like so much. It's not that I'm a dishonest person and I'm trying to pawn off someone's work as my own, but I h a t e sourcing. It feels overly complicated and there are so many rules to remember that I can't remember and even more rules that I don't even know exist. So some how I am person 1 and 2 that Kyle Stedman describes in such that I don't know the rules and I also don't care. However, I do care about my grade. I do care about not being fined for intellectual property theft. And deep down maybe I do care about bettering myself as a person and a writer so I'll try to learn more about sources..
I thought this article was cute and creative. In the future I will remember things such as "armadillo roadkill" before I forget a lead in. I am definitely guilty of being an Uncle Barry but maybe that's because I give my readers too much credit and I expect them to be able to connect ideas and follow my analysis if I provide them quotes (I'm being unreasonably salty here. I know I need to get better at connecting my quotes and my explanations).
I am by far the most guilty of Stedman's "I Can't Find the Stupid Link" (look above). About the only rule I know from high school is to list your sources alphabetically by the author's last name. I thought there would be more information on this so I will just have to continue ignorantly living my life without the knowledge of proper citation.

I hate citing as well, I always mess something up but good luck figuring it out. Your response was very well written and I completely agree with your statement of how you found this article cute and creative. I really liked the metaphors as well and it really made the article easier to get through.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I also don't enjoy sourcing but I do care greatly about my grades. It is important for us to all learn more about citing so we don't steal others ideas. I also agree that this article was ver creative. The humor made it much more enjoyable for us to read.
