Annoying Ways
This was a very easy read, when I saw 16 pages I thought it was going to take me forever but i got through it fairly quickly. I think Stedman gave some pretty solid advice and conveyed it in a very easy to understand, funny, and conversational way. Annoying ways made me question every quote I've ever incorporated in an essay. I've probably annoyed a couple of my teachers but then again they've never told me anything about it. some of things are common knowledge though, i don't think I've ever written a quote without explaining it or giving it context but I'm sure I've written one with out announcing it or hinting that it was coming. i think its great that we read this before writing our essay because we are gonna be incorporating a lot of quotes in it so its nice to have a what not to do guide to it. i think its really cool that he incorporated his own students quotes i think thats an awesome praise. some of the examples that he gave seemed a little weird to me like i didn't think people actually did that. but overall it was a good and productive read, and ill definitely reference it in future essays
I felt the same way before I read the essay! I was worried it was going to be long and boring but when he started with the analogy I knew it would be interesting. Like you said about not knowing that some people make such common errors with quotes, I didn't really realize it either but I feel like its because I'm not a professional writer so I don't pick up on common errors like that. I love reading papers from experts for that reason, because you learn from a new viewpoint.
