Shitty First Drafts
I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and idea behind this article, it is almost a relief exercise to the course we are about to take. It shows us that even when the mind is dead or off in another dimension that panicking is not the option and that simply just writing any thoughts that come to mind can be helpful. The idea that people are perfect writers is preposterous since perfection is never truly accomplished by even those who are the best at their craft. First Drafts are rarely to be seen by others, making the pressure to write something good the first time around almost entirely dissappear since it is primarily to learn or get ideas for the next part of your story that will be ten times better. The article tells us the struggles she had even doing a first draft and once she gets it out the way the ideas come to her with much higher ease. The first draft doesn't need to be anything special or even make a whole lot of sense, it is essentially just a board t pitch ideas at so later you can make a masterpiece in your won way. If the best authors in the world use their first drafts to lay down simple, funny, and crazy ideas just to see if they might work in the future than I will have no problem doing it as well. Sometimes the best way to find Gold is to look through all the garbage first.
Hi Adra
ReplyDeleteI love your last sentence and your analogy of gold vs. garbage. Sometimes writing is just that. Or transforming garbage into gold. I'm glad you learned about the importance of the first draft.
