Shitty First Draft Project 1
My experience was very similar to Anne Lamott's shitty first drafts, mainly because like hers it was shitty. I have 3 very messy, hard to read, and extremely doodled pieces of paper that serve as my planning, they are hard to understand because its a collage of ideas and points. But as I constructed the thesis my messy planning suddenly became extremely helpful and perfectly mapped everything. As for my essay, it started off all over the place, I would start a sentence then think of something else and hit the space bar twice and start on another thought, this went on for a good five sentences until I decided I needed to build upon them. I started hitting road blocks that led to half-hour distractions when I couldn't think of a the perfect word or a statement and it was quite difficult to recollect my self some times but I did it. Anne Lamott dealt with over writing and being too descriptive on her first draft but my experience was the opposite, I knew what to say in my head but I didn't know how to put it into words and sentences that made sense.
It was very interesting to read your point of view on writing and planning multiple drafts, I also get distracted very easily while writing. I don't usually plan out my essays, but after reading about how much it helped you, I may try it out! I completely understand how difficult and frustrating it is to be able to think of the ideas in your head but then have trouble transferring them to the paper.
