Revising Review

Revising work is very important in the writing process. It says in the text that you have someone you respect and who you trust revise all your work so that when they critique your work you are more likely to listen to them.

I am very much a peer review person. Every talking point they say in the book like, "Can you give me your thoughts?" or "I'm really struggling with adding specific details" is truly what I ask people all the time. My ultimate peer reviewer is my mother. She was an English major and I love her comments because they're not only constructive but also not too mean. Even though I do like comments to be constructive, if I think they're mean I will cry.

I also need people to make sure I have covered the basis of the paper like the book was saying. Sometimes I get floaty with my thoughts and start talking about irrelevant things. I need my peer reviewer to pull in the reins some and straighten out all my thoughts.

Hopefully, next class when we do do peer reviews, my partner will guide me the right way so by the time final drafts are due I don't have a huge mess on paper to turn in.

  1. My mom was always the person I trusted to read my essays in high school too. I have the same tendency to lose my point while writing and I need someone to put me back on track. I'm interested in seeing how peer editing goes next class since we all know what points to look for in each others essays. Hopefully peer editing will improve my essay.

  2. I agree that the person reading your work plays a huge role in the advice you get. It has to be a person you respect and is respectful towards you in their pointers. If somebody reads my paper and tells me it's bad, I'm probably not going to listen to them because they just hated on the paper without telling me how to fix it. If somebody reads my paper and gives me quality, constructive pointers, I am much more likely to do something about it and improve my paper. Great post!
