Navigating Genre Responses

These three rules really help to clarify what is needed in order to tackle a brand new genre that you are writing about. It provides essentially three very simple steps that include determining exactly what your writing is trying to accomplish, the second step allows you to evaluate your freedom or what basically the rules are for your writing, and finally the third is too look at what has already been written in this genre to get good ideas of where to go from where you are. These would make writing a potentially new thing seem less frightening and help to calm the nerves and progress into a new undiscovered genre. When it brought up the ransom notes it really gave a concrete example of how you write really determines how effective your document is in that genre. The last two were very unaffective in getting their points across and didn't make sense for what was trying to be accomplished. Meanwhile the first one was straight to the point and got the job done with ease and superiority . When writing about a Genre it is good to have a background or deeper look at what you should write because it will allow the writer to better there work to capture the audience in a better manner for that genre.

  1. I didn't read it as being three steps of sorts, so I really like how you said that. The ransom notes were especially telling of how much we really cling to these genre conventions, as by just reading 3 separate paragraphs, we were able to tell which was "real".All based on our expectations of what a ransom note should look like. And all audience, when going to read or listen to something of a given genre, definitely want their expectations filled, or else you might be able to say that the creator of the work failed.

  2. Hi Adra
It's great that you looked to sum up the article and gave your opinion on it in this response, but instead it would be interesting to read about your reactions to it, and how it can help you improve - or not - as a writer.
