Justin DeLaunay Reader Response 1

Reader Response Chapter One
I definitely put this reading this chapter off way to much especially because it wasn't as brutal as I expected, and if i did read it sooner this reader response wouldn't be half as bad as its about to be.
I think chapter one was a great refresher course for basic writing tools and techniques that I had totally forgotten about over the summer, it even gave me a refresher on the basic genres of writing from narrative, persuasive, and fiction. chapter on also highlighted how we use them in our everyday lives. One of the more interesting things I think they pointed out was the fact that genres aren't rigid or set in stone but can actually be flexible and change depending on how people use them. For example genres can overlap like narrative and persuasive if you're using a life experience to lean one way or another.
As I'm writing this I'm quickly realizing this chapter is a much needed wake up call on the intricacies of writing and all the little tips and tricks that go into something as small as a reader response that make the whole paper come together and make sense. In conclusion my opinion about the chapter as whole is we are using it to reinforce or reintroduce topics that we learned in writing classes all throughout high school, and i will definitely be keeping it in mind as I write more for this class or any class.
I agree with you that this chapter served as a great refresher course to jog my memory on the different methods of writing along with the techniques that are used. I forgot all about them over summer as well. I liked how this chapter did not just use the definitions of the different techniques, rather the book exemplified how to use them in our every day life. I think by showing us how to apply it to our everyday life it is easier to learn and understand. I will definitely now think and apply the little tricks and techniques to my every day writing. I could not have read the first chapter at a better time considering it is the beginning of the school year and I would have not even known that I had forgotten all of those techniques. This chapter will always be in the back 0f my mind throughout the rest of the year, and it will make me into a better writer.
ReplyDeleteI also never though about the way that genres could overlap and be flexible I always thought of them as concrete. I definitely did not do much writing over the summer either so I do agree that this was a much needed and nice refresher of the basics which are needed in order to create good writings. I also liked the examples they showed because that really helped make me realize the importance of certain techniques such as design, style, etc.
ReplyDeleteHi Justin
ReplyDeleteI'm super happy you inserted an "as I'm writing this" moment to your response. That's what reading responses are about: allowing for you to reflect on what the text you've just read represents to you. I'm glad you were able to do just that.
