Chapter 1 Review
I found this Chapter to give a large variety of insight in to the basics of Genres and how to properly write, and persuade an audience in a variety of fashions in order to grab mass appeal based on you're particular field or Genre that you're writing for. This particular Chapter enticed and taught the reader all the different materials or Methods one could use in order to truly get their message across in a variety of ways, as well as provide additional information that allows authors to bring their pieces to the next level. Being able to Understand Style, Genre, Rhetorical appeals, and the Audience allows writers to not only write more thorough pieces that can elaborate more of what the Audience wants ,but also what is needed in certain genres to grab the audience. The Chapter is Phenomenal at depicting how to get your audience most involved with your work by using varying styles. It also illustrates that sometimes the best way to get a Message across depends on the styles preferred at that time. For instance, Annie L. Burton told her story of being a child stuck in slavery through a Memoir. Which wasn't only the best way for her to achieve the ability to get her message and viewpoint across , but it was also a very popular piece during her time that would attract readers and audience members of all kind. Without having the knowledge of knowing all the varying ways to write certain pieces, messages could end up vague or unable to capture the intended audience.
I also thought this chapter excelled in showing the reader how to reach their audience using differing styles of writing and genre changes. I agree that Annie L. Burton's story of her struggle through slavery was well done with a very engaging writing style. Was there any part of the chapter that you weren't a fan of?

ReplyDeleteThank you for your response. I finished reading your reflection thinking about how all this content impacted you; if you already knew all of that, or if the chapter made you re-think some of the ideas you had concerning writing, genres, rhetorical appeals, etc. You wrote a great summary of the chapter but I wish I had learned more about your experiences concerning the topic approached in this chapter.
