remix response
I thought
that the LessingRemixIntro was a very good read, and I found it very
interesting. However, I did disagree with a lot of the points that were brought
up in the intro. I totally agree with the author that an artist of the original
work should be able to take down videos of people who post copies of the original
work. If the people who copy original works and post them as if was their own
without giving the original artist credit, they should have to face the
consequences of having their works deleted. Plagiarism is a serious offence in
today’s day and age, and I think that people would thoroughly learn their
lesson and stop plagiarizing if there is repercussions to their actions. I
agree with the point of the lesson; however, I did not agree with the example
that the author used. If a parent simply posts a video of their child dancing
to a song without giving the artist credit, I do not think this is an
acceptable reason for an artist to delete this video. However, if someone were to
post a video online singing a song, and captioning it “finally finished my new
song, let me know what you think.” That example would be grounds for an artist
deleting a video because those are lines for plagiarizing. Although I do agree
with artists being able to delete videos of people copying their works, I think
that a lot of problems could arise from this. For example, a baby dancing to a
song without giving the artist credit is just absurd, and could enrage the
parents leading to much bigger problems. So, I think that if this rule was to
be enacted there should be guidelines the artist needs to follow in order to
delete videos, to prevent any unnecessary rage from the people posting videos.
