Remix Response

Nothing is original. All stories, songs, and artistic pieces have been done before. It's just about money. A group of college students created a parody off of a famous book series. This isn't unusual, but what was unusual is it became so successful they created 2 more parody musicals and went on tours across the country and gained a significant following and fan base. Warner brothers sued them. These musicals honestly meant so much to me and to thousands of other kids and now we have no way to access them. So I'm high key salty. Art is about sharing and copyright only limits.

I know it's less about expression and more about money but I just find it to be really frustrating. In a perfect world we would act with integrity and no one would illegally download anything but at the same time, why does it matter? These artists and companies are raking in billions of dollars! Why the heck do they need to crush teenagers who are just trying to find an outlet for their creativity?!

I personally don't think it's a big deal and I think a lot of copyright infringement cases are kind of ridiculous.

I think the remix culture is inevitable. With new technology everyone has access to art, the ability to change it, and the platform to distribute it. The laws will change as technology changes and copyright lawyers will just have to deal with it.

Who am I to establish the rules of copy right? I'm an 18 year old who bases plagiarism off of whether it "feels right". Like Justice Potter Stewart, I can't define copyright but I know it when I see it.
