Chapter 7
This chapter was a review of quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing,
and plagiarizing. It was a review of what we went over in class and what I knew
from high school. I did learn that when you quote more than fourteen words in
mla style that you need to block off the text. I was never allowed to have long
quotes in my high school paper, so I was unaware of this. The book stresses the
importance of not plagiarizing, even if it is accidental. It also covers the
differences between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. You want to quote
when there’s no better wording for what is being said. Paraphrasing is used for
a section or paragraph of the work. Summarizing can be used to cover the meaning
of the work as a whole. This chapter will be useful to look at if I get
confused once I start writing my research paper.
I agree, it felt that this chapter was a review, and we learned all about in class as well as in high school. But I felt that this chapter served as a good review to instill all of these topics in us for when we write our research paper. I know how important it is to not plagiarize, but this chapter stressed the importance of not plagiarizing even more.
