Chapter 7
Although this was a long read I felt that it was bearable.
There were a ton of pictures and examples to really show what the chapter was
explaining. I liked that there was a brief overview of quoting, paraphrasing
and summarizing just as a bit of a refresher. What really helped me is the
explanation for how, when, and what to source.
It goes
into a lot of depth about quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing as well as how
to source them. I feel like this will be very helpful when writing the research
paper. I felt that in high school it was just assumed that we knew how to do it
but having a reference to make sure it is being done right is nice. I always
worry that I am doing something wrong so it nice to be able to check it.
Towards the
end the chapter gets into citations which was not very helpful to me because,
of the stress we have already put on it in this class. It goes over plagiarism
and how to make sure that you don’t. Not plagiarizing was probably the most
stressed thing at my high school so it is not something I need to be reminded
of but I understand why it was there.
I agree, chapter seven was a good review of quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. The chapter stressed the importance of not plagiarizing, but so did every one of my high school teachers. This will be a nice guide to have if I get confused while writing my research paper.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this chapter was bearable with all of the examples. After going over these topics in class, it was nice to see them applied to every scenario and to be able to have them as reference for our research paper. Plagiarism is definitely something that is a scary topic for me as well and this chapter did a great job showing how to avoid it and proper ways to cite. Great post!
