chapter 9
When I first heard we were gonna be doing a peer review of our papers I wasn't very excited because writing is usually personal and not something I like to share with the world. My other thought was this is gonna be absolutely useless because every peer review I've ever received or given has just been the two kids telling each other they did a great job to get an A, they're never actually a well thought out critique of each others work. After reading chapter nine I was very happy that I had a new way to look at the whole process and it really showed me to take a step back and get added feedback on my paper because of course if I try to revise I'm not going to see anything wrong with it. another great thing I learned from the book was the set of questions they presented to ask yourself throughout the revision process which I'm definitely going to use going forward not only for peer revision but my own work. lastly I really benefited from the book giving us an actual essay to learn off of instead of just telling us what to do they were showing us what to do and I think I greatly benefited from this. Hopefully through all the tips I have learned in chapter 9 I will not only become writer but better at revising my papers and classmates.
I also really liked having the essay as an example in chapter 9. It's always so much easier to learn from an example than from just reading the textbook author's tips. Hopefully you wont regret sharing your writing with someone else in the class! Everyone seems very nice and will only want to help you improve.
ReplyDeleteI agree most peer reviews, everyone is worried about offending the other about their writing however they can still be beneficial as when I read someone else's writing I pick up on certain nuances that they use and ways of analyzing that i may not have thought about and then i can take that back with me and improve my writing and hopefully that see the same things when reading my writing for them. So thought the critique may not be the most useful as it would be from a prof, it is till a valuable tool i would like to think.
