Chapter 9 Reflection
I found chapter nine extremely helpful especially since we
are going to peer review our essays next class. I am used to peer editing in
class but I have never really gone more in depth than correcting grammar and
vocabulary. I enjoyed how this chapter showed Ganow’s author statement throughout
its entire revision period. I liked that the textbook had questions that we can
ask ourselves while editing our paper. It was helpful to see how Ganow took
these questions and implemented them into her revising process. I usually only
have one other person read my essay, so I never thought about allowing several
people to read my work. I like the idea of taking criticism from the people who
read my essay and changing the things that multiple people suggest fixing. It
was nice see Ganow’s revision process. From her first draft that was vague and
needed to be more focused, which is similar to our shitty first drafts. To her
second draft that improved on her word choice and fine-tuned her argument. Then
her final paper which is the quality of writing which I aspire to. Over all
this chapter was helpful to me even though I originally thought that it would be
a really boring review. I needed to see an example of how my writing and my
revisions should look. The textbook was a nice guide that I plan to look at as I
finish my paper.
I definitely thought this opened my eyes to peer revision before next class so I could write something a little more in depth than good job and try to correct grammar mistakes. I also loved the questions that the book presented us to help guide us through the peer revision process.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that the chapter helped a lot with understanding exactly what a peer review is. I also very much enjoyed the showcase of the author's essay throughout the revision process. I also agree that the sample questions will be a useful tool in not only our own papers, but in our peers' papers too. Great blog post!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that someone found this helpful. I am on the other side of the fence and didn't find it all that useful to me. I feel as though I was just reviewing old stuff.
