Chapter 9 Reaction Chris Link

At the start of last class, I asked a question about what peer review is. When I received the answer, I was asked if I was confused about the peer review process. I was in fact very confused because I hadn’t ever taken part in the peer review process. When I got back from class I had every intention of looking up what peer review was and how the process worked, but to be honest, I got extremely lazy and just watched some Netflix instead. Luckily for me, Chapter 9 spelled it out for me in a very clear and concise manner. Although I do say this every blog post, I feel like this is the most important and helpful passage that I’ve had to read for this class. Reading comments and other blog posts, I’ve noticed that it’s a common trend to have been given little to no criticism in high school peer review sessions. This seems like it wouldn’t help in the slightest and it could potentially even have a negative effect on the paper. Seeing the list of questions that can be used in the peer review process in Chapter 9 helped alleviate my worries that the peer review process would work the same way. While this may be my first time being a participant in the peer review process, I’m going to try my best to provide helpful criticism and feedback to whoever I work with.

  1. That was something the first part of chapter 9 did well, explaining what peer review actually is, rather than assuming we just know or will figure it out.
