Ch. 9 Reading Response
Revising my work is something I don't really do a lot, especially because I have never written a first draft really before. Honestly sometimes I turn in an essay without even rereading it which is not very smart. This text started out talking about how you should first revise your own work using your observations before you let someone peer review your work. It also said that revising your own work is a skill that you have to work on in order to become better at it. So this inspired me to go back and reread my own first draft for Project 1 and revise it before the peer review. The next part of the text talked about peer reviewing, which is the next step in the editing process. After a while, its hard to step back and look at your work objectively, so it's good to get a new opinion on what changes you can make. I liked how this chapter gave examples of what to ask people to look for when they are grading your essay, because I never knew what I should look for when reading someone else's essay and now I have a better idea.
I also went back and reread and revised my first draft to make sure that it is the best work I could have done. This is useful because you know that before someone reviews it, the essay is something that you feel confident in. I feel better about where my first draft is now, but I am ready to get feedback on what I need to improve to start my second draft. I also enjoyed the many examples in chapter nine and I hope to apply them when reviewing someone else's first draft.
ReplyDeleteI completely get your standpoint, I hardly ever write first drafts. I feel that the peer review will be very beneficial to my essay because I will be able to have someone else's standpoint and advice to take into consideration to make my essay the best it can be. I sometimes too just turn in an essay with out even re reading it, and this is a bad habit that I need to break! I went back after reading this and read over my own essay multiple times!
