Karina Scoliere Chapter One
Through the Chapter one reading, a lot of ideas popped into my head. They mostly were things like, "I never knew there was a mode or a media or that they were different things." I also was glad the book reviewed the three rhetorical appeals, because there is never to much explanation of those in my opinion. I honestly enjoyed reading "Kristen LaCroix's Project on Drug Advertising" because it gave a real life example and connected it to everything I just read. Jumping to the beginning of the chapter, my favorite part is found there. Genre is something that I did not think about to much until now. I thought it was weird to step back and think that the genre that we write in is mostly because of the time we are living in or what we know. For example, Annie L. Burton wrote a memoir and not a blog like I am writing write now. Also, it is possible that if she reviewed someone's work she would write to them and send it in a letter unlike what I will be doing and posting right away to one of my classmates writing. That was definitely the best part. Although, the genre and where we write now is different, the purpose is always the same: to reach the audience that you want to. This is what I can appreciate about writing is that it connects people from all different era's.
I enjoyed your review of chapter one in the textbook mainly because of the contrast to mine while I took a more cynical approach in thinking to review the basics was more of a chore than anything else you took a very different perspective. It would seem you found the text enjoyable and even helpful especially when discussing the topics like mode and media after reading your review you even made me go back and rethink my perspective on how helpful the text was and if I was to hard on it the first time around.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know that mode and media were tow different things but I agree with your view on how this chapter really made you think about genres and how to fully understand each genre's intent. While you probably did appreciate this chapter more than I did, your response made me appreciate it a little more now since I mainly just thought of it as a review of the basics which I had already learned in previous years.
ReplyDeleteHi Karina
ReplyDeleteI love your final sentence. Yes, genre connects different generations and also presents a fluidity in connecting different eras and customs. Awesome conclusion!
